A Memorandum of Understanding for the survey and dredging of the Urashi River to the sea has been signed by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Nigerian Navy and Geomarine services.
This aims to connect the 93 km of the Urashi/Njaba River to the sea, which seemed landlocked over the years and limited the economy of the State.
His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari was praised by Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his consistent support of the people of Ndi Imo and the Southeast in general during his speech.
He claimed that, among other things, dredging the River would enable commercial passage and aid in reducing oil theft in the State.
“Access to the sea is access to life and access to the good life is access to the good economy”. This according to the Governor will help boost the state’s economy for Ndi Imo’s advantage.
Remember how the Federal Government authorized the construction of the first seaport in the South East by dredging the Urashi River to the Atlantic Ocean.
When finished, the seaport will enhance the economic activities of the other six significant seaports in the nation. This will allow traders from the zone to directly import and receive their goods while enjoying a comparative advantage as well as promote and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of the people in the South East.
