Before we delve into the nitty gritty of this topic, we believe most people must have heard about fake news but don’t really understand what it is all about, so let’s quickly run an explicit explanation as to what fake news is.
What is Fake News ?
Fake news, in the eyes of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is an oxymoron which lends itself to undermining the credibility of information which does indeed meet the threshold of verifiability and public interest i.e real news.
False or deceptive information that is presented as news is known as fake news, often referred to as misinformation. The purpose of fake news is typically to make money from advertising or to harm the reputation of a person or organization.
Most of the time, these stories are made up, lack substantiation in the form of sources, facts, or statements and frequently they could even be propaganda meant to deceive the reader.
In reality, it is extremely rare for fake news to have a beneficial impact when spread; instead, it usually has a negative impact on the party(s) being misled.
Our upcoming article will discuss the major forms of fake news.
