According to Claire Wardle, PhD and Hossein Derakhshan, they reframed fake news as information disorder, a spectrum that ranges from falseness to intent to cause harm.

The rich and influential from all around the world have started to use the term ‘Fake News’ to refer to news organizations whose report they disagree with.

Fake news is evolving into a method for the powerful to stifle, limit, discredit, and work around the free press in this way.

Fake news is categorized into three groups which are:
~ Mis-information
~ Dis-information
~ Mal-information

Mis-information:
This is when false information is shared but no harm is meant.
Some people spread false information without the intent to spread harm.
People spreading misinformation believe it to be true before sharing it to the public.
Possibly shared as a result of ignorance.

Dis-information:
This is when false information is knowingly shared to cause harm.
Most information is disseminated with the intention of harming or manipulating individuals.
Disinformation refers to actual lies that people spread to gain power, influence, or to wreak havoc.
It is intentional.

Mal-information:
This is when genuine information is shared to cause harm, often by moving information designed to stay private into the public sphere.
It’s possible that this information is accurate, but it’s being misrepresented or distributed maliciously.
Mainly used to destroy ones reputation.

In Summary,
Mis-information is false/misleading content.

Dis-information is manipulated/fabricated content.
